This all occurred when my fiancé Cedric, his mother and I were trekking through Malaysia. On Cedric’s birthday we were scheduled to check into a guesthouse in Miri, Sarawak. We told the owner that we were arriving on Cedric’s birthday and she had a wonderful idea to surprise him!
I was tasked with distracting Cedric so he wouldn't notice the staff preparing the candles on a birthday cake while luring him down to the lobby unsuspiciously. I was successful, as he had no idea it was coming! We sure got him good! I was so impressed with the staff because not only did they get him a cake, they bought a personalized "Happy Birthday Cedric" sign to go on top! Here are some pictures from the experience:
The hostel, called the Dillenia Guesthouse, was a revered establishment in Miri, Sarawak. Unfortunately, the pandemic caused them to close, but the memories they created for their guests will last forever!
